Imperator Carrots
The Imperator is what most people picture when they think "carrot" — long (7–9 inches), slender, tapered to a point, with a deep orange color. It's the dominant commercial carrot variety in North America and the one most commonly found in supermarkets and produce aisles worldwide.
Long, slender, and tapered with smooth, bright orange skin and green feathery tops. Typically 7–9 inches in length. The shoulders (top of the carrot) are small and the root narrows to a fine point at the tip.
Texture: Firm and crisp when raw. The core is slightly more fibrous than Nantes varieties. Holds shape well in cooking.
Flavor: Sweet with a mild, classic carrot flavor. Less intensely sweet than Nantes but still pleasant raw or cooked. Bred more for yield and shelf life than maximum flavor — but widely reliable.
Roasting
Cut into batons or coins and roast at 425°F — develops sweet, caramelized edges.
Raw / Snacking
Cut into sticks for snacking with hummus or dip — the classic crudité.
Soups & Stews
Dices and slices into mirepoix, soups, stews, and braises.
Glazing
Simmer in butter and honey glaze — a simple, elegant side dish.
• The most versatile, all-purpose carrot — suitable for any recipe calling for carrots
• Peeling is optional for most preparations; scrub well if leaving skin on
• The long shape makes it easy to cut into uniform coins, batons, or julienne
Remove greens and store unwashed in the refrigerator crisper for 3–4 weeks. One of the best-storing carrot varieties due to its thick skin.
